Happy Turkey Day to one and all!

Here we go with tonight’s contest between the 7-3 New England Patriots and the 4-6 New York Jets.

Biggest injury note of the night is Vollmer being out at RT for the Patriots. Aaron Hernandez is playing.

Game Log:

1st Quarter

Patriots’ possession:
Pats start at own 19. Stupid play by Brady for the intentional grounding on the first play. I just hate when he does that in the pocket. Early hole with 2nd and 20. Ridley for 5. Jets standing up all their linemen to create confusion. Good play but Edelman but Patriots forced to punt.

Jets’ possession:
Start at own 35. Hightower starts with a sack for 6. Nice run by Greene for 11. Sanchez doesn’t connect, bringing up a punt. Big play on special teams as Edelman returns it to the 36.

Patriots’ possession:
Start at own 36. Good run by Ridley for 9. Nice first down conversion as well. First connection to Aaron for 27 yards. Welcome back! Ridley for 1. Brady deep incomplete. Incomplete to Welker, bringing in Gostkowski. Ghost is wide left. This is not his best season so far, and the Rat’s Widow is ready to cut him. :-) A wasted opportunity.

Jets’ possession:
Start at own 30. Offsides on Wilfork. Greene for almost 3. Greene to the Pats’ 47. Greene for 4. Sanchez to Cumberland for first down. Greene for a couple. Defensive holding on Cunningham for a first down. Powell for 4. Sanchez picked off by Gregory. Looks like Sanchez didn’t see him.

Patriots’ possession:
Start at own 16. Brady misses Fells. 12 men on the field against Jets. Woodhead inside for the first down. Brady deep pass batted away by Landry. 9 yards for Ridley. Outside run by Vereen for 6. Brady to Welker for 5. Ridley for two; popped by Scott. Connolly makes a bad play but still gets benefit of the call for neutral zone infraction. First down. Brady to Welker for 3 after nothing deep was open. Ridley for 6. Ridley for 3 and another first down. Brady incomplete to Welker. Vereen for 13… The interior of the Jets’ defense is looking soft. Add a face mask for half the distance. Vereen for 2, then another 3 to the 4.

End of First Quarter: No Score

2nd Quarter

Patriots’ possession (continued):
Brady to a wide open Welker for the touchdown. Langster falls asleep in coverage. Patriots 7 Jets 0.

Jets’ possession:
McKnight starts the Jets at their own 31. Draw to Powell for 4. Sanchez to Powell out to midfield. Powell for 5… Pats looking a bit soft inside too so far. Powell for a couple more. Powell powers forward for the first down. Powell for 3. Sanchez to Cumberland for 5. Powell stuffed by Mayo short of first down. Greene stiffed on fourth down and fumbles, recovered by Gregory. I understand the call to go for it, but the play call was overly obvious.

Patriots’ possession:
Start at own 17. One play drive; 83 yards Brady to Vereen. Wow. Beautiful play. Patriots 14 Jets 0.

Jets’ possession:
Start at own 20 after touchback. Sanchez to Gates for first down. Sanchez misses handoff and loses ball after running into his own blocker, courtesy of Vince Wilfork. Gregory picks it up and returns it for the touchdown. Patriots 21 Jets 0.

Jets’ possession:
McKnight popped by McCourty on return. Edelman catches it and returns it for the touchdown. Rex shaking his head and calls for Tebow begin. Patriots 28 Jets 0.

Jets’ possession:
McKnight returns it to the 18. Greene for 3. Sanchez to Reuland for first down, then to Greene for another ten. Greene for 5. Short pass for nothing. Sack by Mayo. Jets punt.

Patriots’ possession:
Start at own 27. Brady to Lloyd for 12. Ridley for 5. Wilkerson down. Glad to see him walk off. Fireman Ed looks pissed. Ridley stuffed by Landry. Brady to Edelman for easy 56 yard strike. Touchdown! Patriots 35 Jets 0. This has to be a single quarter record for the Pats. (note: it’s actually a tie of the franchise mark)

Jets’ possession:
Start at own 23. Sanchez to Kerley for 5, then to Keller for first down. Keller again for 8. Two minute warning. Powell stuffed on the run. Wilfork is a beast inside right now. Sanchez to Cumbeland for first down. Deep pass to Kerley incomplete. Sanchez to Hill for 9. Greene pounds out the first down. Pass broken up by Dennard; beautiful play by Dennard. Sanchez to Gates for 9; crushed by Arrington and both players are down. Sanchez pass incomplete, bringing up fourth down. Converted by Sanchez to Hill, then spike ball at he 14. Poor clock management by the Jets. 32 yard field goal just pissed the crowd off worse. Patriots 35 Jets 3.

Kickoff ends half. Patriots 35 Jets 3.

Halftime reactions: First, the Jets are completely off kilter, and see to have no understanding that they are playing for the jobs of Mark Sanchez, Rex Ryan, and Mike Tannenbaum. Second, the difference in the quality of these rosters is both obvious and breathtaking. Based on the play in the first half, the Jets don’t belong on the same field with the Patriots. Finally, I hope the Patriots go full throttle in he second half; no playing conservatively. The Patriots have the opportunity to forcefully close out this game, to effectively end the Jets’ season and to build some confidence in the Pats’ young defensive players and help them as they get closer to the playoffs. It’s also time to mpress upon Rex Ryan that he may not have come to New York to kiss Bill Belichick’s rings, but he will be leaving that way.

3rd Quarter

Jets’ possession:
Starting at won 21. Greene stuffed for a short loss. Sanchez to Kerley for 10. 3rd and 2. Sanchez short gain to Kerley. Jets punt.

Patriots’ possession:
Start at own 24. Brady incomplete to Edelman. Brady misses Lloyd deep. Brady to Welker for 19. Short gain for Ridley. Brady to Hernandez for about 8. Brady sneaks it for the first down. Edelman on Ed around popped by Landry, loses ball to Eric Smith. Rare mistake by the Pats tonight, and a good play by Landry.

Jets’ possession:
Start at Jets’ 42. Sanchez to Keller for 22 yards. Greene for 3. Sanchez to Kerley for first down; fumbled as recovered by Jets at Patriots’ 14. Greene for. 8. Sanchez incomplete to Schillens. Ryan challenges call; it looks close, as the ball did drag along the ground as Schillens went down. Ruling confirmed. Encroachment for first down. Powell for nothing. Pass broken up by Arrington, who is having a better night than he did against the Colts. Sanchez runs and is stopped at the 1 by Spikes. Spikes then stuffs the run on fourth down.

Patriots possession:
Starting at own 1. Brady incomplete, but chop block in the end zone. Safety. Patriots 35 Jets 5.

Jets, possession:
Starting at own 28. Sanchez to Cumberland for a big gain to the Pats’ 32. Powell runs for 14. Sanchez to Kerley for 10. Sanchez tackled at the 9, but Brandon Spikes called for defensive holding. 4th Quarter

Patriots’ possession (continued)
Ridley for the first down. Ridley powers for 8. Ridley again through the middle for the first down. Ridley for another 7. Brady to Hernandez for a touchdown wiped out by interference on Hernandez. That just cost my fantasy team. :-) Brady to Lloyd to the 12. Brady to Vereen for a first down at the 4. Vereen for just over 2. Brady sneaks it in for the score. Patriots 42 Jets 12.

Jets’ possession:
Start at own 43. McKnight for a six yard run to close the game.

Final score: Patriots 49 Jets 19.

Post game thoughts: my write up of the game will come tomorrow. The Jets are done, so stick a fork in them. Patriots played well for most of the evening, with a few lapses. The offense is looking good, articulately for a team lacking a number of starters. But it is the defense that is starting to come around. Dennard had a good game, as did Arrington. I would have liked to see the Patriots close the game out a bit more convincingly, but it’s hard to argue with a 30 point win on the road against a divisional foe.

That’s all for tonight.
